Well, I suppose since there are Christmas songs and ads already being played, I should get a move on with this Episode Page for the upcoming 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special!!!
I will be bringing you updated info on this upcoming special as it is released from BBC over the next month. Check back every now and then for updates.
The Plot:
This upcoming episode of Doctor Who premières this December on BBC One. Entitled ‘The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe’ we can clearly see the Narnian connection BBC has been telling us to expect.
As described on the Official BBC Website Episode Page:
‘This Christmas Special stars Matt Smithas the Doctor… Evacuated to a house in Dorset from war-torn London, Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, are greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world…’
Furthermore, from a news posting on the Official BBC America site:
‘It’s all set during World War II, when young widow Madge Arwell (Claire Skinner, from BBC’s Outnumbered) takes her two children to live in a dusty old house in Dorset. There, while trying to make the best Christmas they can under the circumstances, they meet the Doctor, and startling things start to happen.’
What the Writer has to Say:
Steven Moffat: “The Doctor at Christmas – nothing is more fun to write. Maybe because it’s so his kind of day – everything’s bright and shiny, everybody’s having a laugh, and nobody minds if you wear a really stupid hat. Of all the Doctors, Matt Smith is the one that was born for this time of year – so it’s the best news possible that he’s heading back down the chimney.”
The Cast:
The sixty-minute special also stars three UK comedians: Bill Bailey(the man who recently did the Metallica cover using seal horns), Arabella Weir(The Fast Show), and Alexander Armstrong (of Armstrong & Miller).
Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvil have been listed to play their parts as Amy Pond and Rory Williams for this special. Photos have also surfaced of Christmas special filming in front of the Pond’s flat, so there may be an appearance, but it has not been confermed. (Pics at bottom of this page.)
What the Cast has to Say:
Claire Skinner: “I am thrilled to be in Doctor Who playing Madge who is a bit of super-mum. It’s a magical part.”
What Can We Expect to See?
In this upcoming special we can expect to see astronauts, a Narnian styled mansion, a strange, plot-developing Christmas present, a snow covered forest, all complete with a forest invasion of ‘Star-Wars-like’ clone trooper figures.
